PSIA-AASI is pleased to welcome Maggie Loring to the National Board of Directors, representing the Intermountain Region.
Loring brings decades of experience as an instructor, educator, examiner, school leader, and advocate for the snowsports community. She currently serves as training manager at Deer Valley Ski School in Utah and as an examiner and regional board member for PSIA-AASI Intermountain. She also chairs PSIA-AASI’s Women’s Council for Equity and Inclusion.
Before joining Deer Valley, Loring served as training manager at Solitude Mountain Resort and spent more than 22 years as director of Snowbird Mountain School. Earlier in her career, she worked on the Eastern Region education staff, served as training director for the American Skiing Company’s ski and ride schools, and helped lead SKI Magazine’s SKIwee children’s program. She has taught skiing since age 14 and became an examiner in 1996. Since beginning her teaching, she has only missed one season—1978—due to low snowfall and the demands of college.
Her contributions extend well beyond the slopes. As a member of the former National Children’s Committee, she helped advance children’s education through national symposiums and instructor resources. Loring also wrote several children’s instruction manuals and helped develop PSIA’s Core Concepts Manual, a predecessor to today’s Teaching Snowsports Manual. She holds a degree in child development and an MBA in leadership development.
Loring said she pursued the National Board position to bring a different perspective shaped by decades in snowsports education and leadership. She is especially excited to help strengthen the governance that supports relevant, high-quality, and consistent education as PSIA-AASI continues its standards and alignment work.
Her extensive experience developing instructors, leading snowsports schools, and connecting education to the needs of employees and guests will bring an important perspective to the National Board.
Loring replaces Rich McLaughlin of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming, who was term limited. Thank you, Rich, for your many years of service!
