Where is your home mountain?
Winter Park, Colorado
What other occupations are you involved in?
Resort rentals and management.
Describe a teaching or learning experience that sticks out in your mind.
In grad school, one of the lessons I learned inspired me to pursue a career as a ski instruction. Over the first 12 weeks of a course, the professor showed the class the value in “quality of work life” programs. Then, in one session, he demolished the idea and redirected us to an understanding of finding value in a profession. The lesson showed me I wanted to teach skiing at Winter Park.
What are your specialties as a team member?
Telemark skiing is a specialty. I also have a B.S. in Physical Education and a M.S. in Recreation Education.
Any relevant certifications?
PSIA-certified Alpine Level III and Telemark Level III, and Children’s Specialist 2 and Freestyle Specialist 1 credentials.
Who is your greatest inspiration as an instructor?
I don’t think I have a single greatest inspiration. I think that credit would go to many people I have interacted with over the years. From instructors, trainers, and students to family, friends, and peers. Inspiration has come from many places and sometimes in the most unexpected ways.
Best part of teaching?
Providing value in people’s lives.
What’s your favorite run at your home mountain?
Golden Spike.
