Overview of Position: The Director of Snow Sports leads all aspects of Windham Mountain Club’s Ski and Ride School, WMC Racing, and the Guest Services team including scheduling, sales and reservations, lesson and program organization, ensuring high quality of product delivery, performance management of managers, supervisors and staff, ensuring guest expectations are met, and creating and achieving budgeted financial goals. This key leadership position will be an integral component of creating alignment throughout both the organization and ski and ride school to attain long-term goals and short-term objectives.

 

Job Duties: The list below represents many of the tasks you will be asked to perform during your employment at Windham Mountain Club.  Other duties may also be assigned as needed.

  • Lead a team of operational Managers across multiple departments to achieve company goals and objectives
  • Foster an employee experience culture that promotes skill development, authentic relationships with key stakeholders, execution of high-quality service, and transparency in decision making
  • Collaborate with the Technical Director and department Managers to develop, implement, and facilitate an industry-leading training program
  • Promote a culture of safety for staff and guests by leading industry best practices
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets that support industry-leading programming delivery while obtaining company financial goals
  • Sustain positive working relationships with other company departments
  • Support Managers, Supervisors and staff with all guest relations and employee relations matters
  • Deliver and receive written communication to complete class lists, timecards, incident reports, and other essential paperwork
  • Maintain ongoing professional knowledge of education and programming pertaining to snow sports.  Continuously update instructional methods through association with PSIA-ASSI, USSS, and USASA.
  • Convey and apply accurate technical information for the activities being taught to effectively support managers, supervisors and instructor staff
  • Observe and evaluate movement patterns and skills of lesson groups and prescribe accurate information in group and individual settings to promote enhancement of the instructor staff’s teaching skills, technical skills, and people skills
  • Develop relationships based on trust with all stakeholders to effectively lead with clear expectations, consistency, and transparency
  • Engage in meaningful two-way communication with all stakeholders to effectively understand and solve any guest or employee issues, develop strategy for growth based on candid feedback, and effectively manage operational logistics
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for students to achieve their goals and motivate instructors and coaches to perform to their full potential
  • Recognize and influence the behaviors, motivations, and emotions of your team to build and foster authentic connections that create a strong work culture dedicated to achieving the school’s goals
  • Demonstrate strong leadership through a consistent presence in all operational areas, being available to guests and employees
  • Collaborate on long-term goals and short-term objectives with leadership team and instructor staff
  • Create and lead an environment in which all team members can manage information, activities, terrain selection, and pacing lessons to achieve desired outcomes
  • Promote play, experimentation, and exploration of skills and mountain terrain by providing ample resources and support for all team members
  • Adapt product delivery tactics to the changing needs of the students and staff
  • Facilitate the ability to reflect upon experiences and sensations to continuously promote development of staff and the program

 

Job Qualifications and Skills: 

  • Must have High school diploma or equivalent, college degree in relevant field preferred
  • Must have minimum five years experience as a leader in the snow sports industry
  • PSIA/AASI Level 3 Certification or equivalent required
  • PSIA/AASI Children’s Specialist Accreditation preferred
  • Experience as a staff trainer at a recognized ski and ride school preferred
  • Intermediate computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Experience with RTP software preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to consume and process high volumes of information, including but not limited to emails, work assignments, bulletin board notices, and resort signage
  • Skiing or Snowboarding ability:
    • Must be an advanced level skier or snowboarder capable of skiing or riding all mountain terrain
    • Must have a strong understanding of the Alpine Responsibility Code
  • Understand the Alpine Skiing and Snowboard Fundamentals and how they apply to lessons of varying skill levels to continuously enhance the quality of the lesson experience
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to regularly and consistently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
    • Must be able to push, pull, stoop, kneel, and reach regularly throughout the work day     
    • Must be able to position self to access boots, skis, snowboards or other equipment on the ground or snow surface for yourself and/or others
    • Must be able to observe and identify (visually and auditorily) potential hazards and obstacles including but not limited to safe trail and traffic merging, appropriate lift riding, changing snow conditions, and avoidance of other people and obstacles  
    • Must be able to safely walk, hike, ski or snowboard, and navigate uneven terrain with snow and ice-covered hills and surfaces for up to 6 hours per day
