Katie Ertl – Bio

Growing up in Aspen allowed me many days on the slopes racing for Aspen Valley Ski Club while not in school. I started teaching skiing at age 18 as a way to work through University, and stayed in the industry ever since. After graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado, I headed into a full-time career teaching and coaching for Aspen Skiing Company and at Mt. Hotham in Victoria, Australia. Concurrently, I started working for our Instructors Association (PSIA/AASI) on the National level in 1996 working with the Education team and finished with that in 2012.

In 2017, I moved from 12 years as the Managing Director for the Ski &Snowboard Schools in Aspen Snowmass to a senior role in Mountain Operations, while continuing to oversee the Schools. It has been a fun ride, and I love the continued personal and professional growth.

The mission of the Women’s Council for Equity and Inclusion is to invest in women through educational programming, women’s events, financial support and mentoring at the local, regional and national levels. It also acts as the visionary steering group for creating opportunities for women in leadership in PSIA-AASI and the greater snowsports industry. This group helped revive the women’s summit as a national event, and is actively working with schools and instructors to collect data, develop resources and programs, and guide and inform PSIA-AASI efforts.
