Whether you’re looking to build confidence in the park, learn new skills, refine your technique, or prepare for your Freestyle Specialist certification, the National Freestyle Academy gives you the opportunity to train with PSIA-AASI National Staff and Rocky Mountain educators in Copper Mountain’s terrain park and halfpipe.

WHY ATTEND?
Build Your Freestyle Skills
National Freestyle Academy is for skiers and snowboarders who want to develop their freestyle skills and bring new ideas back to their skiing, snowboarding, and teaching.
During the February 22–23 clinics, you’ll have the opportunity to work on jumps, rails, halfpipe, flatland skills, and freestyle fundamentals. Clinics will be offered for different experience levels, whether you’re new to the park or ready to challenge yourself on larger features.
You’ll train with National Staff and Rocky Mountain educators, ride with other instructors from across the country, and get feedback you can use beyond the Academy. The Academy also includes evening social experiences and a special Woodward Barn session, giving participants an opportunity to connect and keep the fun going after the lifts close.
More Than Training
The National Freestyle Academy is also a chance to spend time with other PSIA-AASI members and educators who share an interest in freestyle.

The Academy begins with two days of freestyle clinics focused on terrain park and halfpipe skills.

Clinics will be designed for a range of experience levels, from members who are new to freestyle to experienced park riders looking to expand their skills.

February 24–26 | Freestyle Specialist Assessments
Freestyle Specialist 1, 2, and 3 Assessments will be offered for both Alpine and Snowboard.
The three-day assessment provides an opportunity to demonstrate your freestyle skills while working with experienced PSIA-AASI educators.
FS 1 Assessment: $405
FS 2/3 Assessment: $660
Freestyle Academy is open to current PSIA-AASI members interested in developing their freestyle skills.
New to the Park
Learn the fundamentals and build confidence navigating terrain park features.
Park Rider
Work on your technique, explore new features, and develop new skills.
Freestyle Instructor
Expand your technical and teaching skills and find new ways to incorporate freestyle into your lessons.
Certification Candidate
Train with experienced educators and prepare for your Freestyle Specialist I, II, or III Assessment.
Prerequisites
FS1 Prerequisite(s)
At minimum, must be a current PSIA-AASI-certified Level I (or equivalent) instructor and be able to ski or ride at current certification level.

Develop Your Freestyle Skills
National Freestyle Academy begins with two days of hands-on freestyle clinics in Copper Mountain’s terrain park and halfpipe.
You’ll work with PSIA-AASI National Staff and Rocky Mountain educators to develop your skills, refine your technique, and explore new ways to approach freestyle.
Clinics will be offered for a range of experience levels. Whether you’re getting comfortable in the park or looking to work on more advanced skills, you’ll have the opportunity to choose a clinic that fits your goals.

The focus is on learning and progression, with skills you can continue to develop at your home mountain and use in your teaching.

Put Your Freestyle Skills to the Test
The National Freestyle Academy will host Freestyle Specialist I, II, and III Assessments for both Alpine and Snowboard at Copper Mountain.
The three-day assessment provides an opportunity to demonstrate your freestyle skills and continue developing as a freestyle instructor while working with experienced PSIA-AASI National and Rocky Mountain educators.
Freestyle Specialist I
This 3-day Assessment is focused on conducting introductory/basic level freestyle lessons in small terrain parks. Each day is focused on one module: Day 1 MA, Day 2 Teach, and Day 3 Snowboarding/Skiing. At the start of each day participants will be coached on their skill sets prior to evaluation. All participants need to have a current Level 1 Certification to attend. Be ready to spend each day sessioning the park and hiking features. Please download the course outline for the prerequisite checklist items before you attend.

Freestyle Specialist II
Freestyle Specialist 2, also known as “FS2” is the second level of PSIA-AASI Freestyle certification. At the FS2, you’re expected to demonstrate experience teaching intermediates in the park, show an intermediate level of knowledge of instruction concepts, and apply your knowledge and skills on snow. The FS2 is a three-day process with a day of Movement Analysis/Technical Understanding, Teaching/People Skills, and Skiing/Riding. Arrive prepared to be on-snow all 3 days.
Assessment Cost: $660
Freestyle Specialist III
Freestyle Specialist 3, also known as “FS3” is the third and highest level of PSIA-AASI Freestyle certification. At the FS3, you’re expected to demonstrate experience teaching all levels in the park, show an advanced/expert level of knowledge of instruction concepts, and apply your knowledge and skills on snow. The FS3 is a three-day process with a day of Movement Analysis/Technical Understanding, Teaching/People Skills, and Skiing/Riding. Arrive prepared to be on-snow all 3 days.
Assessment Cost: $660
Alpine + Snowboard
Assessments will be offered for both Alpine and Snowboard.
Participants can also attend the February 22–23 clinics before their assessment to work on their freestyle skills and prepare for the assessment experience.
