Quality Assurance and Enhancement Drives PSIA-AASI Towards Consistency
In a new First Chair Podcast, PSIA-AASI Director of Education Dave Schuiling, Education Leadership Council (ELC) members Jill Chumbley and Rick Lyons, and Penn State’s Pete Allison discuss how PSIA-AASI is drawing closer to strategic alignment and how all of the association’s divisions have adopted a 6-point scale to measure assessment criteria.
This means that instructors training for certification, resort trainers, education staff, and divisional examiners will all be working out of the same assessment “tool box.”

- Quality Assurance and Enhancement (QAE) is a component of a bigger system in the effort for strategic alignment across all of our standards. We are working on consistency across all of our standards, using the Learning Connection Model (LCM) of People, Teaching, and Technical Skills. Once we have consistency, we need to maintain it, so setting up a QAE will establish the methods by which we can stick to those standards.
- The ELC is main driver of communication across all of the taskforce groups representing all of the disciplines and divisions, which then shares that information at the national level.
- Strategic alignment will ensure consistency across divisions, and increase clarity for examiners and certification candidates by following a 6-Point assessment scale to evaluate how well candidates perform essential elements in regards to evaluation, measurement, exam, grading, and certification.
- Members have asked for more consistency. By achieving that goal, the value of their credential gets that more valuable.
