Snowboard Instructor

Overview:

Teach guests how to snowboard and enjoy the winter environment.  A love of the sport and the desire to continually improve both personal riding skills and teaching ability are important

Essential Duties: (including but not limited to):

  • Must be comfortable setting up an environment conducive to safety, fun and learning.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with students, supervisors, and co-workers.
  • Must have a genuine desire to pass on knowledge of the sport and inspire others to enjoy it.
  • Must be able to work outside in extreme and quickly changing winter weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work in a physically challenging environment.
  • Must be able to maintain a great guest service attitude while working with beginner students on green terrain throughout the season.
  • Must meet schedule commitments to cover business needs.  Be available to work as many of the peak business days as possible.
  • Support SnowSports Academy sales by learning, understanding, and being able to explain products, reservation processes, and other operational procedures to team members and guests to enhance the guest experience.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 16 + years of age.
  • Must be reliable, dependable, and timely.
  • PSIA/AASI Certified Level 1 status preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Must have a genuine desire to pass on knowledge of the sport and inspire others to enjoy it.
  • A growth mindset (an openness to learning and feedback).

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to ride for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must able to teach snowboard lessons in harsh winter weather (cold, snow, wind, rain, sleet, ice).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Organize and conduct both group and private snowboard lessons for guests.
  • Demonstrate and communicate proper snowboard techniques in accordance with the guidelines established by the resort and The American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI).
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the policies and procedures of the resort Team Member Handbook and the SnowSports School Manual.

Work Environment:

  • The instructor work environment is primarily outdoors in the winter weather. Temperature can vary greatly throughout the day and from day-to-day.
  • Must be able to ride in snow, low visibility, powder, ice, hard pack, rain, sleet.

Position Type and expected hours of work:

  • The snowboard instructor position is full-time, part-time, or holiday based on candidate’s availability.
  • Typical work day is 8:30am – 4:30pm.
  • Must be available for weekends and weekdays.
  • Some instructional programs occur in the evening after 4:30pm but never after 9:00pm.

Travel:

  • Must be able to travel to and from home.
