Job Title: Adaptive Ski and Snowboard Instructor
Location: Park City, Utah
Type of Job: Seasonal
Salary: TBD on experience
Job Description: Share the love of winter sports by providing adaptive ski and snowboard instruction to individuals, families and groups in a fun and effective learning environment. Deliver the highest caliber of service to each team member, guest, and visitor at the National Ability Center. Extend the opportunity to individuals who otherwise would not be able to ski or snowboard without the adaptive experience.

Core Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Encourage and engage participants while sharing your passion for skiing through instructing
  • Work with student’s goals and a basic lesson plan matched to their ability creating confidence for participants and families
  • Ensure individuals are comfortable with their equipment and are aware of the safety measures
  • Communicate instructions to students during the lesson, including but not limited to directives, technique and feedback
  • Make sure every participant is safe and having as good a time as possible
  • Fill out paperwork and assessment forms after lessons have been completed to promote forward progress
  • Effectively and positively engage volunteers in lessons
  • Provide family and/or group instruction to students with varying levels of skills utilizing a wide array of techniques and strategies
  • Implement and supervise safety/risk management protocols in a caring and fun environment for participants, volunteers and staff
  • Be a positive representative and promoter of National Ability Center programs, events, and activities in our community
  • Provide referrals of resources including in-kind and monetary donations and volunteers
  • Commit to continuing education in your field utilizing internal and external resources to ensure our programs sustain continual responsiveness and improvement
  • Communicate clearly, honestly, and respectfully with all staff, participants, parents, volunteers, management and co-workers
  • Be fully present and engaged while at work: Attending lessons, trainings, and required staff meetings
  • Embrace and demonstrate National Ability Center core values

Requirements

  • A love of skiing
  • Intermediate to advanced skiing/riding skills
  • A Professional and highest standard of instruction skills
  • Motivation
  • A good sense of humor
  • Passion for working with people with disabilities
  • Patience
  • Able to attend all required training
  • Ability to complete paperwork to deadline
  • Enjoyment of working with people
  • Good ability with children
  • An outgoing nature and enthusiasm
  • Demonstrated history of responsibility, dependability, and maturity
  • Ability to be flexible, creative, and adaptable to situations
  • The ability to use own initiative whilst following established drills and teaching techniques
  • Excellent communication skills: Proficient at speaking, reading and writing English
  • Ability to provide honest feedback to individuals in a tactful manner
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to consistently lift, carry, and load equipment that weighs 50 plus pounds
