Course Description (CEN Cross Country Classic "Fun For All - Cognitive and Visual Diagnoses"):
Cross-country skiing is a natural entry portal into snowsports for people of all ages and backgrounds, including those with disabilities. Join this interactive and game-filled session to explore group lessons with an adaptive application for stand-ski guests with cognitive, behavioral health, or visual diagnoses, including the use of communication tools, learning tools, and teaching methodologies applicable to all participants.
Terrian: This session will take place on easier groomed trails.
Prerequisite skills:
Participants can ski groomed easy trails in cross-country classic style.
Outcomes:
- Identify two considerations for working with guests who have cognitive or visual disabilities.
- Demonstrate the use of two communication tools.
- Use two learning support tools in a lesson for a guest with visual or cognitive needs.
Materials Needed:
- Personal skis or rental equipment (Rental equipment is available to the participants at the Cross Country Area)
On-snow session:
- Stride and share warm-up: Exchange information about your background and interest in teaching adaptive cross-country lessons.
- Exploration of guest profiles - diagnoses, communication needs, medication, and more CAP assessment of guests for lesson planning, teaching strategies, and safety during the session
- Assistive tools and practices
- Activities to anchor concepts and movements

Join this interactive and game-filled session to explore group lessons with an adaptive application for guests with physical diagnoses who may be sit-down or stand-up skiing, including the use of specialized equipment, communication strategies, and teaching methodologies applicable to all participants.

Cross Country Classic Fun for All, Dec 13th, and 14th at Elm Creek Park Reserve (part of Three Rivers) in Maple Grove, Minnesota. PSIA members and non-members are welcome and can register for sessions on Wednesday, Thursday, or both days. Not sure on the title or location this year
