Course Description:

Come challenge yourself, explore the fundamentals of skiing and improve your performance!

This event will feature 5 stations. Each station will feature a drill designed to specifically challenge one of the 5 PSIA skiing fundamental. Two PSIA-Intermountain Examiners will score your performance at each station, give individual feedback, allow for practice and then re-score your final performance.

Here are the 5 drill stations listed by skiing fundamental, a link to a video example and the key feature for each drill.

1. Pressure Control (fore-aft) - Dolphin Turn

Key feature: During each hop the ski tips come off of the snow first and land first.

2. Pressure Control (outside ski) - Stork Turns/Outside Ski Turns

Key feature: Each turn is made balanced exclusively on the outside ski with the inside ski lifted.

3. Pressure Control (magnitude) - Pole Jumper

Key feature: The entire length of the ski clears the pole during each hop.

4. Rotary Control (leg Steering) Straight Run to Sideslip with Edge Set

Key features: Both skis are pivoted simultaneously into a sideslip. The same width corridor is maintained during the straight run, pivot, sideslip and edge set.

5. Edge Control (inclination/angulation) - Railroad Track Turn

Key feature: the ski tails follow the exact same track as the ski tips/no skidding.
