Opened in January of 1940, Winter Park Resort is the oldest continuously operating resort in the United States. We are located just 67 miles north-west of Denver, which makes us the closest major ski resort to the city. Owned by the City of Denver and managed by Alterra/Winter Park Operations Corporation, Winter Park Resort plays a vital role in the rich history and tradition of Denver mountain parks, and is also one of Alterra’s premier destination resorts in North America.  Winter Park’s traditions are deeply rooted in railroad, logging, and the early exploration of Grand County and the local Fraser Valley. POSITION SUMMARY

The SRS Assistant Director will follow all Winter Park policies and procedures, all applicable laws (federal, state, and local), and all health and sanitation codes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Oversees, through subordinate managers and supervisors, multiple large and complex Ski + Ride School programs and all Ski + Ride School operations.
  • In partnership with the Director Ski and Ride School, develops strategic goals and objectives for Ski + Ride School, working with other Resort leaders, stakeholders, and functions to realize these targets.
  • Works with the Director Ski and Ride School, SRS Administrative Manager, SRS Guest Services Manager, SRS Training Manager, SRS Private Lessons Manager, SRS Adult Manager, SRS Kids Manager and staff to create, refine, and grow the Ski and Ride School programs and products.
  • Through frequent communication within the industry, maintains an ongoing awareness of new ideas, innovative successful programs and emerging challenges within our industry. Facilitates operational changes as appropriate.
  • Creates, develops, and maintains a sales growth work environment, resulting in incremental and exponential increases in lesson participation each season.
  • Coordinates with the SRS Training Manager to manage, conduct, and assist in the professional development of Ski + Ride School staff.
  • Through a hands-on role modeling approach, provides experience in leadership and management that emphasizes staff and departmental growth, high- quality programs, professionalism, fun and enthusiasm.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent – required
  • Bachelor’s degree in management, marketing, or other relevant discipline – or equivalent professional experience – preferred

Experience:

  • Demonstrated supervisory or management experience in snowsports instruction of two (2) or more years– required
  • Demonstrated experience as a snowsports instructor of five (5) or more years – required
  • Demonstrated management experience, including budget ownership, in any industry of two (2) or more years – preferred

Qualifications and Skills:

  • PSIA/AASI Level III certification – preferred
  • PSIA/AASI divisional clinic leader, examiner, or national demo team membership – preferred
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage budgets to achieve desired financial goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with, and influence, stakeholders of all levels.
  • Proven ability to promote a positive environment and deliver an exceptional employee experience.
  • Ability to make decisions and adjust to changing situations and priorities.
  • Proven record of building strong teams.
  • Ability to handle deadlines, high degrees of stress and pressure, anticipates problems and develops appropriate solutions.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License and acceptable motor vehicle record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The primary physical environment in which this position works is both indoors and outdoors, time spent outdoors will involve a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc…
  • The degree of strenuous activity within the job is considered to be moderate to high.
  • Some strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain, operating a snowmobile, skiing or riding.
  • Exposure to:
    • Ultra Violet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude.
    • Fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting to fabrication of metal products.
    • Noise generated by snowmobiles, lift equipment, and tools may require hearing protection to be worn.
    • Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer, common office equipment and maintenance hand tools on a regular basis.
  • Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices and basic office equipment on as needed.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
