National Team 2021-24: Meet Stephanie Wilkerson

Stephanie Wilkerson is a member of the 2021-24 PSIA-AASI National Team where he will help set the standard for snowsports instruction. PSIA-AASI hand-selected the 37 team members – 8 coaches and 29 team members – for their range of skills that allow them to serve as inspirational leaders and build enthusiasm for learning and having fun skiing and riding.

Describe a teaching or learning experience that sticks out in your mind.

A year after teaching an 8-year-old, the family returned for another lesson. The father shared that the previous lesson boosted his son’s confidence and gave him a new interest to pursue. Before this experience, I didn’t appreciate the impact a lesson could have on a student. Now, every client I teach is my most important client.

What are your specialties as a team member?

Women’s specific training and lessons.
Helping riders figure out the best snowboard gear for their abilities, snow conditions, and riding styles.

Do you have any relevant certifications or accreditations?

AASI Snowboard Level III and Freestyle Specialist 2 and Children’s Specialist 2 credentials.

Who is your greatest inspiration as an instructor?

I met Lea Logal when I was taking my AASI Level III Teaching Exam where she was an examiner. She played a big role in encouraging and inspiring me to reach further than my Level III. She always believed in my abilities, and I wouldn’t have made it this far without her influence.

Best part of teaching?

The first time that a student feels like they are now a “snowboarder.” It is more than learning to slide on snow. It is becoming a part of a community, a lifestyle, and developing a passion. As an instructor, being a part of that milestone is very special.

Riding off the back of Mammoth via Dave’s Wave.
