Phunkshun Marks 10 Years of Sustainability
10 years, that’s how long PSIA-AASI Official Supplier Phunkshun Wear has used fabric made from recycled plastic bottles in their products.
Initially, a couple models were made out of Repreve® recycled fiber material. By 2014 recycled fabric was adopted across their entire product line, making Phunkshun Wear one of the first brands to implement recycled fabric across every product they offer in the accessory/facegear space. In recent years, larger companies are now adopting recycled material into their product lines.
“We’re incredibly proud to champion this effort for our niche of the industry and to see it being used more widespread throughout the face/head-gear space,” said Jason Badgley, Phunkshun Wear CEO.
Using fabric made from recycled plastic bottles is just one ingredient in their sustainability recipe, the State of Colorado has recognized Phunkshun Wear as a Gold-Level Environmental Leader, and the City of Denver has awarded a Certifiably Green distinction to the Phunkshun factory and offices.
“It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Taking our commercial rental space that was built in the 80s and making it Eco-Friendly is an ongoing process,” said Jason. “It started with retrofitting LED lights throughout, which give us energy savings and provide better lighting and a better work environment for our staff.”
