National Team 2021-24: Meet Ann Schorling

Ann Schorling is a member of the 2021-24 PSIA-AASI National Team where she will help set the standard for snowsports instruction. PSIA-AASI hand-selected the 37 team members – 8 coaches and 29 team members – for their range of skills that allow them to serve as inspirational leaders and build enthusiasm for learning and having fun skiing and riding.

Where is your home mountain?

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

What other occupations are you involved in?

Leadership consulting.

Describe a teaching or learning experience that sticks out in your mind.

A week-long group of seven and eight-year-olds in Portillo, Chile. None of them could stop when we started the week, but they LOVED to ski. We laughed and played a ton, and they brought pure joy to every day.

What are your specialties as a team member?

Off-piste big mountain skiing, understanding people skills, figuring out what is getting in the way of success.

Any relevant certifications?

Alpine Level III and Telemark Level III. Children’s Specialist 2.

Who is your greatest inspiration as an instructor?

There are too many to count! I tend to draw inspiration from lots of different people in lots of different ways and places. This list will inevitably leave people out: Sean Baker, Mermer Blakeslee, Matt Boyd, the Flynns, Josh Fogg, Jen Metz, Nina Oqvist, Jennifer Simpson, and my dad, William Schorling.

Best part of teaching?

Watching people overcome what they thought were impenetrable barriers.
