7 Questions with PSIA-AASI National Team Coach Jeb Boyd

Catch up with members of the PSIA-AASI National Team, and the candidates who have been invited to 2021 Team Selection, as they discuss how they are staying in shape this summer, making goals for next winter, and creating new education resources for the association.

This week we talk to PSIA-AASI National Team Coach Jeb Boyd.

How are you staying busy?

First is tending to our summer business, Whale’s Tale Waterpark, and taking the steps needed to safely and successfully get re-opened (which happened today!). We modified operations based on the moving target of the pandemic to ensure our staff and guests are safe. I’m also staying busy with five workouts per week, typical spring house projects, and working on the strategic alignment initiative.

What is your go-to offseason workout?

I’d say cycling is my go to, as it’s the most readily available work out I have. One of the things I like most about summer though, is the variety of available activities. That said, I balance my cycling time with waterskiing and surfing after the water warms up a bit!

Big plans for next season?

Next year for me is all about the strategic alignment initiative and how the team can provide support divisions and member schools. Outside of that, Team Selections will be another core focus.

Which digital resource would you recommend for other members?

Digital conferencing. The more I use platforms like Zoom, Meet Up, Teams and other platforms, the more I like it. I do believe that this will shape how we have meetings in the future and the more comfortable we get with this technology, the more effective we will be.

What’s your favorite ski movie?

Hot Dog, of course. There are so many one-liners in that movie that are iconic. We also watched a bunch of “old” 80’s and 90’s ski flicks from the Extreme Team made up of the Egan and Deslauriers brothers.

What educational initiative or task force project are you working on right now?

National Academy and Team Selection rescheduling, team training, and a variety of project work surrounding strategic alignment.

Any shout outs you would like to share?

No one in particular, but I loved all the folks spending time on Facebook sharing thoughts, memories and kooky things like #sheltercise, pics and vids of their nutty way of staying in shape and staying sane during these crazy times.
