PSIA-AASI Announces 2020 National Coach and Team Selection Process

PSIA-AASI recently announced its 2020 National Team and Coach Selection process and how it will help the association leadership continue to select the nation’s best instructors to represent the organization at its highest education level. As part of that process, PSIA-AASI has encouraged all current discipline coaches and other interested individuals to learn more about the coach application process for the 2020-24 National Team and apply by July 31. As a result of this new process, all individuals and coaches on PSIA-AASI’s new National Team for the 2020-24 term will continue to embody three key attributes that all members of the current National Team: lifelong learners, inspirational educators, and inspirational athletes. The PSIA-AASI National Team is a hand-selected group of individuals who help promote the organization’s educational programs and grow participation in skiing and snowboarding.

The team represents all genres of snowsports outlined by these national certification standards: adaptive, alpine, children’s specialist, cross country, freestyle specialist, snowboard, and telemark. For the 2020-24 team, each discipline – adaptive, alpine, cross country, snowboard, and telemark – will be led by its own discipline-specific coach. The five coaches will report to, and work with PSIA-AASI National Team Head Coach Jeb Boyd.

“We decided to shift to a structure where the entire coaching staff supports each other’s disciplines,” said PSIA-AASI Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Herrin. “We’re calling this the ‘ONEteam’ approach – and it’s focused on PSIA-AASI’s Three C’s initiative for consistency, communication, and collaboration.”

“Our 2020 National Team and Coach Selection process is an opportunity for us to review our national team and ensure that the right people are in the right seat based on PSIA-AASI’s education initiatives moving forward, said Jeb Boyd, who currently serves as PSIA-AASI Team Manager. “While some of our current coaches may continue and others may retire, this process helps our education leadership review and reset as needed.”

The organizational chart below outlines the 2020-24 PSIA-AASI National Team leadership structure, which also reflects Boyd’s title change for 2020, which shifts from team manager to head coach. (PSIA-AASI is seeking applications for the positions highlighted in green.)

“Discipline-specific coaches will support the association’s vision of ‘creating lifelong adventures through education’ and act as role models for other instructors,” said PSIA-AASI Director of Education Dave Schuiling. “Coaches are recognized as leaders in the snowsports community, and foster synergy between members, schools, and divisions.”

Qualified individuals are encouraged to submit a resumé and letter of intent expressing interest in this position to Schuiling () by 5 p.m. (MST) on Friday, July 31, 2019.  To learn more, visit thesnowpros.org/teamselection.
