The Nancy Oakes Hall Women’s Scholarship Empowers Female Instructors to Excel as Leaders in the Snowsports Industry

The Professional Ski Instructors of America and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI) announces a new educational scholarship program for female members who would like to grow as leaders in the snowsports industry.

Founded by former PSIA Alpine Team member and instructor Nancy Oakes Hall, the scholarship fund will award three educational scholarships each year. One scholarship covers attendance at PSIA-AASI’s National Academy, another covers attendance at the Women’s Summit, and a third scholarship option helps offset expenses related to preparing for and achieving a PSIA-AASI Level I, II, or III certification or specialist credential.

“PSIA-AASI is fortunate to receive Nancy’s contribution, which will help support women by expanding their education and leadership opportunities in the snowsports industry,” said Nicholas Herrin, PSIA-AASI CEO. “One of our goals as an organization is to be a community of educators that positively influences others. I see the Nancy Oakes Hall Women’s Scholarship as an opportunity to grow our community and help shape our future leaders.”

“Nancy had the idea of the scholarship as a way to give back to her community and empower women,” said Carol Levine, former PSIA Alpine Demonstration Team member (1980-88), Oakes Hall’s longtime friend, and member of the scholarship selection committee. “Through her own experience, Nancy recognized and appreciated the support one gains from working with like-minded women – and she wanted to pay that opportunity forward to others. Ultimately, she wanted to get more women involved with the Team and in leadership roles.”

Aleisha Padilla Seubert, PSIA-AASI education development specialist and a member of the scholarship selection committee, said the scholarships will be awarded to female members who’ve demonstrated a commitment to enhance their teaching, skiing, and service skills and want to pursue leadership roles within PSIA-AASI and/or the snowsports Industry.

Any female member of PSIA-AASI who is dedicated to growing professionally is encouraged to apply. Levine adds that the selected recipients should demonstrate Oakes Hall’s qualities of working hard to improve, commitment to helping others, and humility.
