DESCRIPTION: Meeting Location & Lift Ticket Information will be sent out by the Event Coordinator, via email, no less than 48 hours ahead of the event start time.
\nPrepare for your event by visiting your events discipline's Education & Certification Page and https://www.aftonalps.com/
\nReview PSIA AASI Central Event Policies.
\nWHO:  For instructors at every cert level (newbies and veterans) who are looking for deeper insight into how learning takes place, with the goal of getting your students more engaged, and thus primed for improvement. And for instructors striving for the elusive Level 2 or Level 3--you will find out how much you really know about key movement patterns that not only open learning pathways for students, but will give you new insights into your own skiing!
\nWHAT #1: You'll be introduced to the process and goals indoors. (Basically, instructor teaches a short segment of a lesson w/o speaking, students can speak/ask limited questions.) On the hill, the clinic leader will give a silent teaching example. There will be a short discussion. Then each participant will teach a short lesson segment as the day progresses. Ensuing on-hill discussions will be limited to feedback on how well the instructor seeded and cemented movements designed to lead to specific skiing performance outcomes.
\nWHAT #2: You'll learn how focusing on "felt" outcomes (what the student feels physically in a specific part of the body when performing a task) enhances the "observable skiing outcome."
\nMore "feeling"  means more skiing!
\n
\n"Shut Up and Teach" is not a teaching course in the traditional sense. You're not going to learn teaching "progressions" per se, or be critiqued on MA. But you will discover that you've probably been using words in ways that have been interfering with, rather than enhancing , your students' understanding--and their capacity to learn.
\n
\n WHY: The great hurdle for most instructors seeking higher certification is finding that sweet spot where the five fundamentals,  progressions, movement analysis, biomechanics, learning and teaching styles overlap, so we can tap into our self-awareness and see clearly how to teach in a way that fuels our own skiing improvement.
\nLIMITATIONS: The course can be taken as a 1-day (6 CEUs)  or 2-day (12 CEUs) event.
\n6 instructors per day limit (to provide sufficient time for teaching segments.)
