Snow Show Standouts: New Skis and Boots for Instructors
The Outdoor Retailer Snow Show took place in January at the Colorado Convention Center, with dozens of PSIA-AASI Suppliers showing off next year’s skis, snowboards, and accessories to retailers and snowsports instructors.
Here are some of the top new alpine skis and boots they wanted to introduce for instructors, and their students as well.
Nordica HF Ski Boots
The new HF (“handsfree”) ski boot makes it easier than ever for skiers to get in and out of their gear. Nordica Product Manager Ethan Korpi said the boots feature a patent-pending one-piece liner that provides performance and comfort with an easy-entry shell and closure system. The customizable Primaloft 3D Cork Fit liner wraps around the heel and forefoot like a traditional boot, and has an extremely large opening of 40 degrees to easily slip a foot in and out.
Head Supershape
Head’s multi-faceted KORE collection is a hit with a wide variety of skiers this season. But it’s the Supershape Collection they really aimed at ski instructors. “It’s the ski for those who were raised on skis,” according to Andrew Couperthwait, the company’s wintersports product manager. A race-oriented ski with go-anywhere balance, power, and a thicker tip and tail than previous models, it’s a five model line of high-end carving ski with all-condition control.
Salomon STANCE
The Stance Collection features the men’s 102, 96, and 90, constructed with a full poplar core for performance and energy, while the women’s Stance 88 and Stance 94 are slightly lighter with a blended karuba and poplar core. A race-inspired sidecut and double Titanal construction delivers impressive edge grip. Salomon Alpine Marketing Manager Joe Johnson said, “The upper Titanal layer features laser-milled windows that help to free up the ski, providing the skier with a loose torsional feel and intuitive turn initiation.”
