Marketing & Special Events Intern

Position Description:
The Marketing & Special Events internship is available from mid-November through mid-April. However, internships are accepted on a rolling basis depending on university and student need. The commitment is a minimum of 3 months, for 24-40 hours per week, with workdays to include some weekends dates. This intern position will be provided with shared housing in Winter Park as well as a monthly stipend of $300.

The Marketing & Special Events intern will support the Development & Marketing team by creating strategic and engaging marketing content for fundraising, special events, and our adaptive outdoor programs. For NSCD’s special events, weekend work and physical labor for event setup and breakdown will be necessary. The role also involves spending time with our programs, engaging with lessons and participants to develop content such as videos, photos, and written stories. This internship offers a hands-on experience for those interested in learning about nonprofit marketing and special event planning. The intern will collaborate with the Development & Marketing team and gain experience across a variety of projects including digital marketing, video and photography, and event management.

Internship Duties:
The duties of this position are performed personally, in cooperation with your supervisor, and/ or in coordination with other staff. Additional work functions and duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain social media calendar and create original content.
  • Assist in designing and writing in-house collateral such as flyers, fundraising pieces, and other marketing materials.
  • Shadow participant programs weekly to capture mission and impact for social media and marketing content.
  • Assist in producing NSCD e-newsletters and other digital communications in MailChimp platform including setting up templates following brand standards.
  • Organize and maintain NSCD photo/video library.
  • Update website content and maintenance.
  • On-site assistance throughout the entirety of each special event including set up & tear down.
  • Assist in event signage, banners, and other collateral.
  • Assist with special event raffle communication and training with event volunteers.
  • Assist with event layout including table décor, floor plan, etc.
  • Help with all aspects of the auction including sourcing auction items, picking up auction items from donors, and processing thank you letters to auction donors.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Candidates should be college or graduate students majoring in marketing, communications, media studies, photography, journalism, or other relevant studies. Students should check with their academic faculty to see if this unpaid internship qualifies for academic credit.
  • Photography and video skills.
  • Working knowledge of Canva / Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Understanding of social media platforms and best practices.
  • Hold a passion for NSCD’s mission and values.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, initiative and exercise personal judgment in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of humor and integrity.
  • Candidates must possess a Colorado driver’s license, meet background check criteria and criteria regarding clearance to drive NSCD vehicles.
  • Knowledge of outdoor sports such as skiing or snowboarding a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Dexterity, auditory and visual acuity to operate computers and phones or mobile devices.
  • Auditory and visual acuity to interact with guests, sponsors, donors, and clients on a daily basis.
  • Able to work for long periods of time without break during the conduct of presentations and events.
  • Able to lift 25 lbs. with minimal assistance.
  • Able to work outside year-round in varying conditions
  • Able to successfully manage multiple, high priority tasks in a fast-paced environment, varied schedule with days and hours of work, based on NSCD needs.
  • Able to successfully manage multiple, high priority tasks in a fast-paced and often times crowded and noisy environment.
