WHO WE ARE:

The Western Division of the Professional Ski Instructors of America and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI) is one of eight divisions that make up the American Snowsports Education Association (ASEA, the national umbrella organization of PSIA-AASI). PSIA-AASI was founded in 1961 to develop a standardized system for teaching people and to unify instructors throughout the country. We are a 501(c)6 organization with a 501(c)3 charitable arm, the PSIA-AASI Western Education Foundation. We advance snowsports instruction and education in the disciplines of Alpine, Cross Country, Telemark, Snowboard, Children, Seniors, Adaptive, and Freestyle, supporting the professional growth of our 3,300 diverse, passionate, and exceptionally talented members and more than 25 member resorts across California, Nevada, and Hawaii. We are proud to be recognized nationally and internationally as the leaders in snowsports education. LEADERSHIP & CULTURE:

PSIA-AASI Western is led by an engaged and supportive Board of Directors, helping carry the work forward while encouraging innovative growth and providing the CEO and their team space for autonomy. The CEO will join a highly collaborative and energized team of approximately 100 staff, working collaboratively to support the success of the organization. This role will be perfectly positioned to exemplify and expand on the positive and fun culture of our organization, fostering an environment where our team and members are encouraged and supported to do their absolute best work.

BENEFITS & FEATURES:

  • Salary – $85,000 – $105,000
  • Bonus – Up to $5,000 based on outperforming financial goals and metrics
  • Health Insurance Stipend – $7,200 per year

  • Primary use of the Western Division company vehicle, if supplied by ASEA National. Accident insurance will be covered by the organization.

LOCATION:

This role is remote for a resident of California or Nevada and will require a significant amount of travel during the peak season.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will assume overall responsibility for the success of PSIA-AASI Western, with oversight of an approximately $500,000 budget and a team of approximately 100 mostly part-time employees. The CEO will collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish and execute plans and policies consistent with the mission and goals of the organization. They will use creative and innovative strategies to enhance PSIA-AASI’s programs and member experience in ways that will diversify the organization’s funding and bolster membership growth and retention. The CEO will be highly visible; they will build relationships with all our stakeholders, including top professionals in the industry. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Development

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop a multi-year strategic vision, anticipating key opportunities and challenges to ensure continual growth of the organization.
  • Translate the Strategy into operational plans with clear KPIs to determine successful outcomes.
  • Create innovative pilot programs and similar tactics to test and refine aspects of the Strategy as required.
  • Direct effective communications to ensure stakeholders understand and value the Strategy.
  • Maintain the insight necessary to identify and respond to sweeping trends and subtle shifts in the snowsports industry that may impact the organization’s ability to serve its members and stakeholders.
  • Build loyal and long-term relationships with key donors, sponsors, program partners, and members to enhance and support PSIA-AASI’s programs and Strategy.

 Operational Management

  • Develop and communicate a yearly business plan that is consistent with the Strategy, within the boundaries of the Governance Policies Manual, and achieves performance targets as established by the Board of Directors.
  • Execute the Business Plan by directing the operations, policies, and priorities of the organization and key vendors/suppliers to achieve the performance targets while minimizing risk.
  • Achieve membership retention and growth targets by ensuring that the programming, activities, and services of the organization directly benefit the members and their professional desires.
  • Prepare and communicate summary results of the yearly business plan, including insights and recommendations for future improvement to the Board of Directors and other applicable bodies.

 Fiscal Management

  • Monitor and direct the financial activities of the organization, in compliance with all laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Direct the organization’s annual budget within the context of the Bylaws and Governing Policies Manual, present for approval by the Board of Directors, and regularly report on the organization’s performance relative to the annual budget.
  • Ensure the execution of reliable methods for financial forecasting, ensuring the fiscal soundness of the organization.
  • In partnership with the Finance Committee, maximize the organization’s financial assets through investment strategies and minimize financial exposure through risk assessment.
  • Establish management and oversight activities to ensure successful contract management.
  • Identify, prioritize, and execute impactful fundraising activities through innovative partnerships and collaborative relationships.

 Workforce Development

  • Recruit and develop a high-caliber team of professionals commensurate with the talent necessary to achieve compelling business targets.
  • Manage and maintain the professional staff of the organization to include administrative, support, and educational team members, encompassing key responsibilities such as annual evaluations, successful rewards, corrective discipline, and termination when necessary.
  • Ensure implementation of procedures and practices relating to all aspects of human resources management including personnel policies, salary and benefits administration, payroll, records retention, and performance bonuses.
  • Develop and maintain successful executive relationships with resort management, peer regions, and National, as well as key VIPs, industry partners, and other influential bodies critical to the organization’s success.
  • Be accessible to the membership on a case-by-case situation for purposes of maintaining positive relationships and the reputation of the organization.
  • Professionally represent the organization at membership or snowsports industry events.

 Governance

  • Assist the Board of Directors to fulfill their responsibilities by ensuring Directors are kept informed of matters and developments that warrant their attention or action and ensuring assistance necessary to fulfill their individual responsibilities under the bylaws and Governance Policies Manual.
  • Keep the Board of Directors informed on a timely basis of significant issues affecting the organization or its members/stakeholders and provide guidance and recommendations on process issues such as establishing and interpreting bylaws and policies, and decision-making and accountability.
  • Act as a resource to the Board of Directors to ensure policy decisions are made on an informed basis and implement board policy decisions as necessary.

 BACKGROUND PROFILE:

  • Demonstrated executive leadership experience, encompassing areas such as strategy development, innovation, and change management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – demonstrated ability to develop workforce talent and create collaborative successful working environments.
  • Successful budget development and management skills including forecasting, decision-making, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Successful track record in fundraising and sponsorship development.
  • Experience in outdoor sports, snowsports, resort operations, or snowsports school management is a plus.
