Course Description:

One-Day Telemark Workshop: It's All in the Heel!

Technical Skills


Course Description:

This course is intended to bridge the gap between Alpine and

Telemark skiing and education. The use of contemporary

Telemark and Alpine skills and fundamentals will be incorporated

in conjunction with teaching and people skills. Topics will focus on

both disciplines' needs, including the many common

denominators. Participants may participate in either Alpine

equipment, Tele Equipment, or, if they are proficient in both, there

will be time for a gear change.


Recommended Preparatory Learning or Prerequisites:

-Must have intermediate- Advanced skiing proficiency in Alpine,

Tele, or both.

-Must have a level one certification or higher in PSIA-AASI.

-Recommended reading

- The Teaching Snowsports Manual.

- The Alpine Tech Manual

- The Telemark Tech Manual

Prerequisite Course(s) and Skills:

-Must have a level one certification or higher in PSIA-AASI.

-Must have intermediate- Advanced skiing proficiency in

Alpine, Tele, or both.


Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, successful participants will be able to:

- Incorporate different teaching strategies to use for personal

skiing development and for students.

- Incorporate new tasks for personal skiing development and

for students.

- Gain useful knowledge regarding the common denominators

between other disciplines.


Learning Experiences:

- It's All in the Heel" will explore several learning methods.

Teaching and learning scenarios will be interactive, and

participants will be invited to participate if they choose to.

- More detailed group discussions, including MA, will take

place in the morning, at lunch, and at the closing.

- Details of the day's activities will be compiled by the group

and made available via email following the event.

- Individual MA videos will be available by request.


Materials/Equipment Needed:

- Participants must provide their own equipment.

Typical Terrain:

- Groomed green/blue/black based on tasks

- Off-piste green/blue pending conditions.

- Green/blue moguls pending conditions.

- Natural Park features pending conditions.

Task Examples:

Task 1: One ski task on green/blue groomed terrain

Task 2: Leaper versions on green/blue groomed terrain

Task 3: Hockey stops/ side slips on blue/black terrain

Task 4: Skidded turns on blue/black groomed terrain

On-Snow Meeting Location: TBA - The Event Coordinator will announce the meeting location at a later date. Information will be sent out by email.


Ticket Information: Nubs Nob will graciously be offering $10 lift tickets to all participants of the event. Further information will be provided to participants at a later date by the Event Coordinator, via email.
