Course Description:

This course is designed to support instructors preparing for Telemark Level I or II Certification. Using the Learning Connection Model as a framework, participants will explore the Technical, Teaching, and People Skills Fundamentals in the beginner/novice zone. On-snow practice, peer-to-peer activities, teaching scenarios, and group discussions will help participants gain familiarity with the assessment format, criteria, and activities. Candidates will practice movement analysis, create effective teaching segments, and engage in conversations--on and off the hill--that deepen their understanding of the National Standards and scoring methodology.

Participants should arrive prepared for two full days on snow and be able to ski safely on all green and blue terrain.

Learning Experiences:

Specific activities will vary depending on the group's needs and environmental conditions and typically include:

• Practicing Level I and II assessment activities, alongside exercises that improve performance and understanding.

• Reviewing the Assessment Forms, Assessment Activities, and Assessment Criteria.

• Guided group discussions and feedback exchanges.

• Peer-to-peer teaching and movement analysis activities.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, successful participants will be able to:

• Understand their personal performance in all three areas of the Learning Connection Model, compared to the National Standards.

• Demonstrate knowledge of the Level I and II assessment process, criteria, and typical assessment activities.

• Use current PSIA-AASI resources to articulate accurate cause-and-effect relationships of Telemark Fundamentals through all phases of the turn, and apply these insights to create effective prescriptions for change.

• More effectively analyze movement, apply technical knowledge, and adapt teaching strategies to create positive and productive learning experiences for a range of students in varying on-snow environments.
