Course Description:

Description: Technical Skills Clinic, 1 Full Day, On-Snow. Qualifies as Assessment Prep Clinic or Continuing Education

Assessment Prep Goal: Prepare participants for the MA segment of the Alpine Level 2 Assessment by focusing on identification of ski and body performance, their cause-and-effect relationships, and effective prescriptions for change for skiers through the intermediate zone.

Continuing Education Goal: Improve understanding of ski and body performance, their cause-and-effect relationships, and how to use this information to create technically accurate lessons.

Clinic Outcomes: By the end of the clinic, participants will be able to:

  • Define ideal skier performance as it relates to an intended outcome.
  • Demonstrate accurate observations of ski and body performance of at least two skiing fundamentals through all phases of the turn.
  • Describe the cause-and-effect relationship between ski and body performance.
  • Describe a more effective use of the fundamentals to achieve the skier's goal.

Clinic Experiences:

  • Participants will collaborate with clinician and the group to determine a plan for improving and practicing observation skills and discussing the connection between ski and body performance.
  • Clinic leaders will facilitate discussion related to the online observation assignment utilizing the "worksheet" as a vehicle for the process.
  • Clinic leaders will guide participants as they practice observational skills and share what they see in terms of ski performance and body performance of at least two fundamentals through all phases of the turn.
  • Clinic leaders will facilitate practice at choosing activities that will generate more effective use of one of the skiing fundamentals through all phases of the turn.

Clinic leaders will facilitate reflection and review of clinic activities based on the outcome and provide insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the candidate's ability to accurately observe, describe relationships, and prescribe effective change
