Course Description:

Course Description: When it is done correctly, tethering is a safe and effective means of assisting while teaching adaptive skiers and snowboarders. Before you get out on the hill and practice tethering, it is essential to have a basic understanding of safe tethering techniques. This course is designed to give you that basic tethering information.

Important safety note: Even after taking this clinic, you should receive in-person instruction and feedback the first time you practice tethering on the hill.

Course Outcomes: On successful completion of this clinic, you will understand:

  • Which skiers and snowboarders may benefit from the use of adaptive tethers
  • Different types of tethers and the equipment that is used with them
  • Safety considerations for tethering adaptive skiers and snowboarders
  • Proper maintenance of adaptive tethering equipment
  • Practice exercises you may do in your home to prepare for on-the-hill practice session

This course is beneficial if you:

  • Are new to tethering an adaptive skier or snowboarder
  • Have previously tethered only sit-down or only stand-up sliders and would like to know more about other tethering options
  • Need a refresher course for safe tethering techniques.

Additional Equipment Needed: To participate in the clinic, you will need two adaptive tethers (each at least six feet in length). Alternatively, you can use two pieces of rope that have a loop tied at each end. Each loop should be approximately one foot in length, and the total length of each rope (with the loops tied), should be at least six feet in length.

The device you use for the webinar must include a working camera that allows others to see you. This is needed to receive feedback on your technique during the webinar. You will not be given CEUs if the clinicians cannot see you and thus cannot give you feedback.

Format: This clinic utilizes Ring Central Meetings, a web-hosted service for online video conferencing. Before the class, you are given a link to the online meeting. The presentation is shown via the sharing of the instructor's desktop. Throughout the clinic, there are discussions and activities to encourage participation.

Many mobile devices do not allow for full participation in online meetings. It is strongly recommended that you use a computer with working video, speaker, and microphone capabilities to connect to the meeting via the internet. If your computer does not have speaker and microphone capabilities, you may use a phone for audio.
