Course Description:
Course Name: Level III Exam Prep Skiing
Discipline: Alpine
Time: 2 Days (12 credits)
Environment: Advanced terrain
Note: Due to variations in trail difficulty designations from one resort to the next, i.e., a Blue Square run at one resort may be designated as a Black Diamond at another resort. It is possible, and probable at some resorts, that ungroomed or Black Diamond bumped runs may be included in this event. In addition, trail difficulty may vary due to snow conditions improving or deteriorating throughout the day. The course conductor will determine if the local trail designations and conditions are appropriate for the ability of the group and will choose terrain appropriate for the event.
Prerequisites: Level II Certification
Course Description:
This clinic will focus on refinement and mastery of skills and tactics needed for high level skiing situations and accurate performance of demos and tasks. Bump skiing will be included, but will not comprise a major part of the clinic. Movement analysis skills will be practiced and coached during skiing improvement activities.
Learning Experiences:
Specific activities will vary depending on the group and environmental conditions; however, they will typically include:
• Reviewing the format of the Level III Skiing Exam.
• Reviewing and understanding how the application of the Skills Concept and the Alpine Skiing Fundamentals impact ski performance and are reflected in the National Standard.
• Reviewing and understanding the Assessment Criteria for the Assessment Activities.
• Practicing the Assessment Activities. Depending upon the needs of the group, the group may:
o perform all of the Assessment Activities
o focus on those activities that need the most work or are least understood
o focus on activities that will help the group to improve ski performance in a broad range of activities
• Performing drills, static exercises, progressions or other activities, that are not Assessment Activities, but will aid all, or some members of the group in improving ski performance.
• Exploring terrain that is similar to, or is used, for exam assessment activities.
• Delving into strategies and tactics for dealing with exam anxiety for a successful performance.
• Understanding, through activities and feedback, personal ski performance as it compares to the National Standard.
