Course Description:

The Level I Certification Assessment affirms that an instructor is qualified to teach beginner/novice guests in terrain appropriate for early skill development (typically identified as "green" terrain) and to competently ski in beginner and easier intermediate terrain. This assessment evaluates candidates across all three areas of the Learning Connection Model--people skills, teaching skills, and technical skills--as well as professionalism and self-management. Successful participants demonstrate the ability to create safe, fun, and engaging learning environments for novice students while applying the discipline-specific fundamentals.

Candidates should expect a formal assessment environment and need to have completed their Alpine Level I eLearning Course prior to registering.

Learning Experiences:

Specific activities will vary depending on the group and environmental conditions, and they will typically include:

• Refer to the appropriate Assessment Guide for more information about the assessment format.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this event, successful participants will be able to:

• Conduct themselves professionally, demonstrating self-awareness and self-management.

• Use clear and respectful verbal and non-verbal communication to build trust and rapport with students.

• Plan, implement, and reflect upon effective progressions for beginner/novice students.

• Demonstrate discipline-specific technical fundamentals with consistency in beginner and easier intermediate terrain.
